dating...

I think my dating skills are a little rusty . . . last night Greg and I actually got a babysitter so we could go out with some friends, but then our friends couldn't find a babysitter so Greg and I went out alone. We drove around for nearly three hours trying to think of something to do that wasn't the same ol' going out to dinner routine... we couldn't come up with hardly a thing! Gosh, we used to think up some great ideas all of the time--I guess I'm just not the wild and crazy girl that I used to be ;)

So I am asking, no, actually I am begging anyone reading this to give me some dating ideas... please?

disgruntled. . .

Tonight I was trying to get my kids out the door and into the van for over 30 minutes with no success. Finally Kaydee and Nicole thought it would be to their best interest to listen to me and they hurried out the door. My dear daughter, Nicole, ran into the van and quickly shut the van door so Kaydee couldn't get in. Shortly after doing so, she looked around disgruntled and said, "how come I'm the only one in here?!"

Family History...

So I'm typing up my father-in-laws history and I actually am really enjoying it. Go figure... I mean, don't get me wrong, I always have found Greg's dad to be an amazing person but it is rather fun to read what has molded him into the man that I know and love today.

An excerpt out of his history...

"My earliest memory of this part of my life is living in a big “old” house on Washington Blvd and Twelfth Street. My mother and dad were engaged in remodeling and renovating this older house.
During one period of this process they would work every evening into the night sanding and refinishing the hard wood floors. I remember them working on the big kitchen floor. The reason why I specifically remember them working on the kitchen floor was because of “the event”. They had finally finished the kitchen floor and had the newly applied varnish on it. Mother had baked cookies the day of the evening they varnished the floor. Because the cookies were on the cupboard, they weren’t accessible to anyone-especially me. My mother told me not to get on the floor for the whole day while the floor dried—the cookies could wait until tomorrow. As the day progressed I studied how to get onto the counter top without touching the floor.

I made it! I was on the counter top without touching the floor. The return was easy. All I had to do was jump back to the hallway from which I had come. As I turned to position myself on the counter to jump, my leg bumped a can which tipped over. As it fell on its side, a gurgling sound came as the liquid poured off the counter onto the floor and began to run across the newly applied varnish.

I could see the damage that was being done by the liquid (which I now know to be varnish remover. ) My mother screamed, “What was that?!” I jumped and ran. I hid in the bathroom in a space between the old bath tub and the wall. I could see the doorway and I looked at the liquid running across the kitchen floor taking the new varnish with it. My mother went to the door to see what had happened. She just slumped onto the doorway floor, her back to the door jam, and sobbed.

To this day I can see in my minds eye the consequences of disobedience."

I am totally using this story for my kids.

Toddler dreams . . .

Natalie woke up around 1 am calling to Greg and tried to communicate that I fell in the bathtub. Hmmm . . . I'm not sure where that came from. She was so sure that this really happened that it took him another twenty minutes to get her back into bed.

Then this morning, the first thing that she told each of us as we woke up was that mommy fell in the bathtub. I started to ask her lots of questions about the dream but since we are still in the deciphering stage with Natalie, it was a tad bit difficult to figure it out. Thus far what I think happened is that she was on the ceiling and I "catched" her, not caught but "catched" but as I was doing so I fell into the bathtub and got all of my clothes wet. I asked her if I got hurt and she said- with a real sad face- that mommy cried - waahhhh! Ha! Apparently I am quite the cry baby in her toddler dreams. ;)

Oh and one more thing... the same toddler informed me that my blog was grumpy (as she pointed to my profile picture) and so I've changed my picture. How do you like my cheeser?

A wink and a smile . . .

My Kaydee is getting ready for Kindergarten in the fall (can you believe it?!) I keep telling her that she can't go because I won't have anybody to wink at me while she is gone. Her reply to me at dinner tonight was, "What, when I wink it means I love you for always, even forever." Awww.... she certainly knows how to melt my heart. I tried to get her cute "wink" on photograph . . .

Grandparents Day . . .

I just want everyone to know that I have the greatest dad in the world. Today was grandparents day at Nicole's school and she chose my dad to attend. He showed up in his best suit and everything. Each grade put on a little program and then each child took their grandparents aside and read to them. After the event my dad took Nicole out to lunch to McDonald's which is quite a treat since according to my kids, we NEVER get to go to McDonald's. Nicole can't stop talking about how much fun it was to have Grandpa there. Gosh, where is your camera when you need it?!

Kaydee has even informed me that next year when she is in Kindergarten and has Grandparents Day she wants Grandpa R to come and take her to McDonald's after . . . what do you say Dad, is it a date?

I know this is way sentimental for me but seeing my dad walk into Nicole's school brought tears to my eyes . . . and I remembered all of the fun things that my dad did for me when I was growing up. He used to take my sister and me on Daddy/ Daughter dates to Leatherby's where I believe I got my love for ice cream. ;) I remember one Daddy/ Daughter date especially when I was in Beehives. We had to dress up in our best attire and we had a dinner and a dance. My dad bought me a corsage and he held my hand as we walked up the street where the event was held. I probably acted like I was too cool to be enjoying myself (sorry dad) but I had a great time.
